"Okaeri" wins production grant from the Ministry of Culture of Peru

The Nikkei project was one of five winners of the Fiction Project Competition in the National Feature Film Production category (New Filmmakers), organized by the Ministry of Culture of Peru.

Okaeri: The Spy of the Rising Sun has been awarded production funding through the 2025 Economic Stimuli for Cinematographic and Audiovisual Activity, an initiative of the Ministry of Culture of Peru. The project was evaluated and selected unanimously by the jury, which stated:

“Through a child’s perspective—central to this period piece—the film conveys a clear yet tender message of equality, empathy, solidarity, and intercultural cooperation in the face of extreme nationalism and xenophobia. The director demonstrates not only a strong vision, but is also supported by a solid producer and team capable of fully realizing the script’s potential. The project stands out for its strong background research and the filmmaker’s essential personal motivation, resulting in a film that is both deeply local and universally relevant today, with a distinct tone and a clear, poetic style.”
